Treatment Comparison

Stem Cell IV Therapy
vs. Targeted Injection.
Which Is Right for You?

Both use the same premium umbilical cord MSCs. Both cost the same $1,999. The difference is how and where they’re delivered — and the right choice depends on your specific condition.

Same stem cells. Same quality. Same price. Different delivery.

Two Ways to Deliver the Same Healing Power

IV Therapy

Systemic Delivery

Treats the whole body through your bloodstream

  • 40 million MSCs infused via simple IV drip
  • Cells distribute throughout your entire body
  • 1–2 hour infusion, relaxing experience
  • Best for widespread or systemic conditions
  • 1,600+ clinical trials studying IV MSC delivery
Learn about IV Therapy →
Targeted Injection

Local Delivery

Concentrates all MSCs directly at the problem

  • MSCs injected directly into the affected joint or tissue
  • Maximum concentration at the site of damage
  • Quick procedure — injection takes minutes
  • Best for a single joint or localized pain
  • Strong RCT evidence for knee osteoarthritis

Side-by-Side Breakdown

Everything you need to compare — from delivery method to recovery.

  IV Therapy Targeted Injection
How It Works MSCs infused into your bloodstream via IV drip. Cells circulate systemically and home to areas of inflammation and damage throughout the body. MSCs injected directly into the affected joint or tissue. All cells concentrate at the specific site of damage for maximum local effect.
Best For Multiple joints, systemic inflammation, autoimmune conditions, neurological conditions, general wellness/longevity, widespread chronic pain Single joint problems (one knee, hip, or shoulder), localized osteoarthritis, specific tendon or ligament injuries, focused cartilage damage
Procedure Duration 1–2 hours (IV infusion) 30–60 minutes (injection takes minutes)
Experience Relaxing — sit comfortably during infusion, similar to IV vitamin therapy. Most patients read or rest. Quick — local anesthetic for comfort, injection itself takes minutes. Similar to a cortisone shot experience.
Recovery Go home same day. No required downtime. Resume normal activities immediately. Go home same day. No required downtime. Most resume normal activities within 24–48 hours.
When Results Begin 2–8 weeks onset, optimal at 3–6 months 2–6 weeks onset, optimal at 3–6 months
Clinical Evidence 1,600+ clinical trials. Safety meta-analysis: 62 RCTs, 3,546 patients, zero serious adverse events. Multiple RCTs for knee OA. Meta-analysis: moderate to large effect size (SMD -1.35). 5-year follow-up study showed sustained improvement.

Find Your Answer in 3 Questions

Use this quick guide to get an initial sense of direction. Andrea will confirm the best approach during your consultation.

1. How many areas are bothering you?
One joint or area Leans → Targeted Injection
Multiple joints or widespread Leans → IV Therapy
2. Is your condition localized or systemic?
Localized One bad knee, arthritic hip, shoulder injury → Injection
Systemic / Autoimmune RA, MS, Lyme, widespread inflammation → IV
3. Do you have one primary problem AND broader issues?
Yes — both One terrible knee + overall inflammation or autoimmune issues → Combination therapy may be ideal
No — just the one joint Targeted injection alone is likely best

Common Conditions & Recommended Approach

General guidance — your provider will customize the recommendation for your specific case.

Injection
Usually Best

  • Single-joint osteoarthritis (knee, hip)
  • Rotator cuff / shoulder injury
  • Meniscus tears

Patients Like You: What We’d Recommend

These are composite scenarios based on the types of patients we see every week.

🦵

“My right knee is bone-on-bone. It’s the only joint that bothers me.”

Single-joint osteoarthritis with localized damage. No systemic inflammatory issues. Already tried cortisone with declining effectiveness.

→ Targeted Injection
🔥

“I have rheumatoid arthritis and everything is inflamed — hands, knees, feet.”

Systemic autoimmune condition affecting multiple joints throughout the body. Widespread inflammation is the primary concern.

→ IV Therapy
💪

“Torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder. I’m an active golfer and want to avoid surgery.”

Specific soft tissue injury in a single joint. Goal is localized tissue repair and returning to activity without surgical intervention.

→ Targeted Injection
🧬

“I have MS and I’m looking for additional support alongside my DMTs.”

Systemic neurological/autoimmune condition. Need cells to reach the nervous system and modulate immune function body-wide.

→ IV Therapy
🏃

“My left knee is terrible, but I also have RA and general inflammation everywhere.”

One severely affected joint plus a systemic autoimmune condition. Both local and body-wide support would benefit this patient.

→ Combination: Injection + IV

“I’m 68, feeling run down, joints are stiff but nothing specific — I just want to feel better.”

General aging, mild systemic inflammation, no single joint crisis. Looking for overall vitality and anti-inflammatory support.

→ IV Therapy

Combination Therapy

Sometimes One Treatment Isn’t Enough

Some patients get the best outcome by combining a targeted injection for their primary problem joint with IV therapy for systemic support. Andrea Montana, MSN, APRN will recommend this when your condition calls for it — both localized and body-wide healing.

Severe OA Knee + Systemic Inflammation

Injection delivers maximum MSCs directly into the damaged knee. IV therapy addresses the chronic inflammation driving degeneration everywhere else.

RA + Primary Affected Joint

IV therapy calms the autoimmune response systemically. Injection targets the joint suffering the most structural damage.

Joint Injury + Aging / Longevity

Injection supports tissue repair at the injury site. IV therapy provides the anti-inflammatory and regenerative support associated with healthy aging.

Post-Surgical Recovery

Injection supports local tissue healing around the surgical site. IV therapy supports systemic recovery, immune regulation, and overall repair.

Same Premium Treatment. Same Price.

Your treatment choice should be based on what’s best for your condition — not cost.

Common Questions About IV vs. Injection

What is the difference between stem cell IV therapy and injections?
IV therapy delivers stem cells through your bloodstream for systemic distribution throughout the body — cells circulate and home to areas of inflammation and damage everywhere. Targeted injections deliver stem cells directly into a specific joint or tissue, concentrating them exactly at the site of damage. Both use the same premium UC-MSCs. The choice depends on whether your condition is localized (injection) or systemic/multi-area (IV).
Do IV therapy and injections cost the same?
Yes — both are $1,999 all-inclusive at The Stem Cell Club. We kept pricing identical so the recommendation is based purely on what’s best for your condition, not economics. This includes consultation, premium UC-MSCs, the procedure, and follow-up care. Most clinics charge $10,000–$25,000 regardless of delivery method.
Can I get both IV therapy and an injection?
Absolutely. Combination therapy is common for patients with one severely affected joint plus systemic inflammation or an autoimmune condition. For example, a targeted injection for your worst knee plus IV therapy for body-wide immune and anti-inflammatory support. Andrea Montana, MSN, APRN will recommend this when your case warrants it. Combination treatments are priced as separate procedures.
Which treatment is better for arthritis?
It depends on the type and extent. Osteoarthritis in a single joint (one knee, one hip) — targeted injection is typically the better choice, concentrating all MSCs at the site of cartilage damage. Rheumatoid arthritis — IV therapy is often better because RA is a systemic autoimmune condition affecting the whole body. Multiple joints with OA — IV therapy may be more practical than injecting each joint individually. Some RA patients with one severely affected joint benefit from both.
Which treatment is better for back pain?
Back pain is complex and the answer depends on the source. Facet joint problems — targeted injection may be an option. Disc degeneration or spinal stenosis — IV therapy for systemic anti-inflammatory support is often more appropriate. Widespread back and neck pain — IV therapy typically provides broader coverage. Andrea will review your imaging and history to recommend the best approach. See our back pain page for more details.
How long does each treatment take?
Targeted injection: 30–60 minutes total (the injection itself takes just a few minutes). IV therapy: 1–2 hours for the full infusion. Both are same-day outpatient procedures. You go home the same day with no required downtime for either treatment.
Which treatment has more research behind it?
Both have significant clinical evidence, but in different areas. IV MSC therapy has been studied in over 1,600 clinical trials across dozens of conditions. A safety meta-analysis across 62 randomized controlled trials with 3,546 patients found zero serious adverse events. Intra-articular MSC injections for knee osteoarthritis have particularly strong evidence — a meta-analysis of 6 RCTs showed a moderate to large treatment effect sustained at 12 months. A 5-year follow-up study showed maintained pain and function improvement. The “better” evidence depends entirely on which condition you’re treating.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does stem cell therapy cost in Fairhope, Alabama?
At The Stem Cell Club, stem cell therapy costs $1,999 — all inclusive. This covers your consultation, premium U.S.-sourced MSC stem cells, IV or injection treatment, and follow-up care. Most Alabama clinics charge $10,000–$25,000 for comparable treatment. We’re able to offer lower pricing because we source directly from FDA-registered labs, don’t pay commission-based salespeople, and keep our overhead lean.
Is stem cell therapy legal in Alabama?
Yes. Regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy are legal in Alabama. The Stem Cell Club follows all FDA guidelines for minimally manipulated umbilical cord tissue products. Our medical team provides full physician oversight for every treatment at our Fairhope clinic.
What conditions do you treat at your Fairhope clinic?
Patients come to our Fairhope location for knee pain, hip pain, shoulder injuries, osteoarthritis, back pain and disc issues, sports injuries, autoimmune inflammation, and general wellness and longevity goals. During your free consultation, we’ll discuss whether stem cell therapy is appropriate for your specific situation.
How long does stem cell therapy take?
The procedure takes 1–2 hours at our Fairhope office. Most patients return to normal activities within a day or two. We provide detailed aftercare instructions to help maximize your results.
Why is your price so much lower than other Alabama clinics?
We source our MSC stem cells directly from FDA-registered labs — no middlemen, no brokers. We don’t have luxury waiting rooms, commissioned salespeople, or celebrity marketing budgets. Our stem cells are the same quality as $15,000 clinics; we just don’t mark them up 5–10x. We believe transparent pricing and honest care shouldn’t be the exception in regenerative medicine.
Do you accept insurance for stem cell therapy?
Most insurance plans don’t cover stem cell therapy yet, as it’s still considered investigational by many carriers. However, many patients use HSA/FSA funds. At $1,999, our pricing is often less than a typical insurance deductible — and a fraction of what most clinics charge.
Can patients come from Pensacola or Gulf Shores?
Absolutely. We see patients from all across Baldwin County, Mobile, the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area, and even Pensacola, Florida. Fairhope is centrally located on the Eastern Shore, making it an easy drive from most Gulf Coast communities. Many patients combine their treatment day with some time enjoying downtown Fairhope.
When will I see results from stem cell therapy?
Results vary by person and condition. Some patients report reduced pain within the first few weeks, while others notice gradual improvement over 2–3 months as stem cells work to reduce inflammation and support healing. Most of our Fairhope members repeat treatment every 6 months for sustained benefits.
