What Are Targeted Stem Cell Injections?

Unlike IV therapy — which delivers stem cells systemically through your bloodstream — targeted injections place premium mesenchymal stem cells directly into the specific joint or tissue causing your pain.

This concentrates the full regenerative and anti-inflammatory power of MSCs exactly where damage has occurred. The cells go to work immediately in the local environment — reducing inflammation, modulating the immune response within the joint, and supporting cartilage and tissue repair.

The injection procedure is quick (just a few minutes) and uses local anesthetic for comfort. Most patients describe it as similar to a standard cortisone injection — except the goal isn’t temporary relief. It’s supporting your body’s ability to repair.

You go home the same day with no required downtime. Most patients resume normal activities within 24–48 hours.

Why Targeted Injection?

  • Maximum local concentration — All MSCs delivered directly to the affected area, not distributed throughout the body
  • Ideal for single joints — Best choice when one knee, hip, shoulder, or other joint is the primary concern
  • Quick procedure — Injection takes minutes, total visit 30–60 minutes, go home same day
  • Strong evidence base — Intra-articular MSC injections for knee OA have been studied in multiple randomized controlled trials with positive outcomes

Joints & Areas We Treat

Targeted stem cell injections can be administered to most major joints and specific soft tissue areas.

What MSCs Do Inside Your Joint

When MSCs are injected directly into a damaged joint, they work through several complementary mechanisms.

🔥

Reduce Joint Inflammation

MSCs release anti-inflammatory cytokines that calm the chronic inflammation driving pain, swelling, and stiffness inside the joint capsule.

🛡️

Protect Existing Cartilage

MSCs secrete chondroprotective factors that help shield remaining cartilage from further degradation — slowing the destructive cycle of osteoarthritis.

🧬

Support Cartilage Repair

Through paracrine signaling and direct interaction with local cells, MSCs promote an environment conducive to cartilage tissue repair and regeneration.

⚖️

Modulate Joint Immune Response

MSCs regulate the overactive immune cells within the joint, shifting macrophages and T-cells from inflammatory to anti-inflammatory states.

🩹

Improve Synovial Environment

MSCs help restore a healthier joint fluid environment — improving lubrication, reducing enzymatic breakdown, and supporting the synovial membrane.

📉

Long-Lasting Pain Relief

By addressing root causes rather than masking symptoms, MSC injections provide relief that clinical studies show can be sustained for 12 months and beyond.

Injection vs. IV Therapy: Which Is Right for You?

Both treatments use the same premium UC-MSCs at the same price. The difference is how and where they’re delivered.

Targeted Injection

Best For

  • Single joint problems (one knee, one hip, one shoulder)
  • Localized osteoarthritis
  • Specific tendon or ligament injuries
  • Focused cartilage damage
  • Maximum MSC concentration at the site of damage
  • Quick procedure (minutes, not hours)
vs
IV Therapy

Best For

  • Multiple joints affected simultaneously
  • Systemic conditions (autoimmune, neurological)
  • Widespread chronic inflammation
  • General wellness and anti-aging support
  • Conditions without a single localized target
  • Learn about IV Therapy →
Not sure which is right for you? During your free consultation, Andrea Montana, MSN, APRN will review your condition and recommend the optimal approach — injection, IV, or a combination of both. Some patients benefit from targeted injection plus systemic IV therapy for comprehensive support.

MSC Injections vs. Cortisone Shots

Many patients come to us when cortisone stops working. Here’s why MSC injections take a different approach.

Traditional Approach

Cortisone Injections

  • Temporary anti-inflammatory relief (weeks to months)
  • Effectiveness declines with repeated injections
  • Research shows repeated cortisone can weaken cartilage
  • Masks pain without addressing root cause
  • May accelerate joint degeneration over time
  • Limits typically 3–4 injections per year
Regenerative Approach

MSC Stem Cell Injections

  • Aims to address root inflammation and support repair
  • Clinical studies show sustained improvement at 12+ months
  • MSCs secrete chondroprotective factors to support cartilage
  • Modulates the joint immune environment
  • 5-year follow-up study showed maintained pain reduction
  • No evidence of cartilage degradation from MSC treatment

🔍 An Honest Note About Stem Cell Injections

Intra-articular MSC injections have some of the strongest evidence in regenerative medicine — particularly for knee osteoarthritis, where multiple randomized controlled trials have shown meaningful improvements in pain and function. A meta-analysis across 6 RCTs showed a moderate to large treatment effect sustained at 12 months.

That said, stem cell injections are not a guaranteed fix. They’re not FDA-approved for any specific condition. They won’t regrow a completely destroyed joint. Results vary based on the severity of your condition, your overall health, and individual biology. Some patients respond dramatically, others moderately, and occasionally some see limited benefit.

We’ll give you an honest assessment of what the research shows for your specific situation — and whether a targeted injection, IV therapy, or another approach makes the most sense. If we don’t think we can help, we’ll tell you.

4 Simple Steps

1

Free Consultation

Phone or Zoom with our team. Discuss your joint pain, share any imaging (MRI, X-rays), review previous treatments, and talk about your goals. 15 minutes, zero pressure.

2

Medical Review

Andrea Montana, MSN, APRN reviews your case and imaging. She’ll recommend targeted injection, IV therapy, or a combination — and explain exactly why for your condition.

3

Injection Day

Quick, precise injection at our clinic. Local anesthetic for comfort, then MSCs delivered directly into your joint. The injection itself takes minutes. Full physician oversight. Go home same day.

4

Results Over Time

Most patients notice improvement within 2–6 weeks as inflammation decreases. Optimal results develop over 3–6 months. Many patients return every 6–12 months for maintenance support.

Common Questions About Stem Cell Injections

How much do stem cell injections cost?
$1,999 all-inclusive at The Stem Cell Club. This covers physician consultation, premium UC-MSCs, the targeted injection procedure, and follow-up care. No hidden fees. Most clinics charge $10,000–$25,000 for comparable treatment. See our pricing page for full details.
What joints can be treated with stem cell injections?
We treat knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, ankles, and smaller joints of the hands and feet. Knees and hips are the most commonly treated. Select spinal applications (facet joints) may also be options depending on your imaging. During your consultation, Andrea will review your case and recommend the best injection approach.
Should I get a stem cell injection or IV therapy?
Targeted injections are generally best when you have a single joint or localized area causing problems — one bad knee, one arthritic hip, a shoulder injury. IV therapy is better for systemic conditions, multiple joints, autoimmune issues, neurological conditions, or general wellness. Some patients benefit from both — a targeted injection for their worst joint plus IV therapy for systemic support. Andrea will recommend the optimal approach during your consultation.
How long does a stem cell injection take?
The injection itself takes just a few minutes. Including preparation, local anesthesia, the injection, and a brief monitoring period, plan for about 30–60 minutes at our clinic. Far shorter than an IV infusion (1–2 hours) and a fraction of any surgical alternative. You go home the same day.
Are stem cell injections painful?
Most patients report mild discomfort similar to a standard joint injection or cortisone shot. We use local anesthetic to minimize pain at the injection site. The vast majority of patients tolerate the procedure extremely well. Some experience mild soreness or swelling at the injection site for 24–48 hours afterward — this is normal and typically resolves quickly.
How soon will I see results?
Many patients begin noticing improvement within 2–6 weeks as MSCs reduce inflammation and begin supporting tissue repair. Optimal results typically develop over 3–6 months. Some patients report changes within the first week, while others experience a more gradual improvement curve. Results depend on the specific condition, severity, and individual biology.
How long do results last?
Clinical studies show sustained improvement at 12 months following MSC joint injections. One 5-year follow-up study showed maintained pain and function improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Many of our patients return every 6–12 months for maintenance treatments. Duration of results varies by individual and condition severity — we’ll discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Are stem cell injections better than cortisone?
They work through different mechanisms. Cortisone provides temporary anti-inflammatory relief but research shows repeated injections may weaken cartilage and tissue over time. MSC injections aim to address root inflammation and support the joint’s repair environment for longer-lasting benefit. Many patients turn to stem cell injections after cortisone stops providing adequate relief. That said, cortisone still has its place — we’ll discuss the pros and cons for your specific situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does stem cell therapy cost in Fairhope, Alabama?
At The Stem Cell Club, stem cell therapy costs $1,999 — all inclusive. This covers your consultation, premium U.S.-sourced MSC stem cells, IV or injection treatment, and follow-up care. Most Alabama clinics charge $10,000–$25,000 for comparable treatment. We’re able to offer lower pricing because we source directly from FDA-registered labs, don’t pay commission-based salespeople, and keep our overhead lean.
Is stem cell therapy legal in Alabama?
Yes. Regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy are legal in Alabama. The Stem Cell Club follows all FDA guidelines for minimally manipulated umbilical cord tissue products. Our medical team provides full physician oversight for every treatment at our Fairhope clinic.
What conditions do you treat at your Fairhope clinic?
Patients come to our Fairhope location for knee pain, hip pain, shoulder injuries, osteoarthritis, back pain and disc issues, sports injuries, autoimmune inflammation, and general wellness and longevity goals. During your free consultation, we’ll discuss whether stem cell therapy is appropriate for your specific situation.
How long does stem cell therapy take?
The procedure takes 1–2 hours at our Fairhope office. Most patients return to normal activities within a day or two. We provide detailed aftercare instructions to help maximize your results.
Why is your price so much lower than other Alabama clinics?
We source our MSC stem cells directly from FDA-registered labs — no middlemen, no brokers. We don’t have luxury waiting rooms, commissioned salespeople, or celebrity marketing budgets. Our stem cells are the same quality as $15,000 clinics; we just don’t mark them up 5–10x. We believe transparent pricing and honest care shouldn’t be the exception in regenerative medicine.
Do you accept insurance for stem cell therapy?
Most insurance plans don’t cover stem cell therapy yet, as it’s still considered investigational by many carriers. However, many patients use HSA/FSA funds. At $1,999, our pricing is often less than a typical insurance deductible — and a fraction of what most clinics charge.
Can patients come from Pensacola or Gulf Shores?
Absolutely. We see patients from all across Baldwin County, Mobile, the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area, and even Pensacola, Florida. Fairhope is centrally located on the Eastern Shore, making it an easy drive from most Gulf Coast communities. Many patients combine their treatment day with some time enjoying downtown Fairhope.
When will I see results from stem cell therapy?
Results vary by person and condition. Some patients report reduced pain within the first few weeks, while others notice gradual improvement over 2–3 months as stem cells work to reduce inflammation and support healing. Most of our Fairhope members repeat treatment every 6 months for sustained benefits.
